This weekend was great! My boyfriend and I finally checked off a couple items on the list we have been creating since we started dating. We finally got the chance to pull out the “Brownies.” For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s basically an underwater hooka… a generator floats on the water and pushes air through tubes down to you below. The result is that you get to scuba without carrying the tanks, etc. I had never used one before, but it was a blast… once we got it in the water.
Me: “So how does this whole Brownies thing work?”
BF: “Oh, its super simple and easy. We will park by the beach and carry it down to the water. I’ll get you setup from there.”
Me: “But isn’t it kind of heavy?” (I had seen it before)
BF: “Nah, it’s totally easy, you’ll be fine.”
The next thing I know, I’m training to be a Navy Seal, carrying a 10 ton (ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration) inner tube through about half a mile of jungle and sand dunes (NOT an exaggeration). But who said that wasn’t easy? *insert eye roll here*
Once down in the water, it all did become super easy. I had some challenges not getting tangled up in the hoses (as can be seen from the below pictures) but it was really neat! We went up to the Palm Beach Inlet and swam along the jetty. There were many more fish than I expected. The adventure got a little exciting when we neared the end of the jetty and realized that the current was really sucking us out to sea! Luckily, we realized in time and were able to hoof it back to shore.
We swam for an hour or so then headed back to the beach… where we remembered we had to get it all back to the car. Next time, there will be a boat involved to do the grunt work.
Stay Strong!
